Writing Awards at UC

Awards for UC and UC-program students:

The following three competitions are open to undergraduate students registered in University College or enrolled in a major or specialist program administered by the College or affiliated with the College. The deadline for all UC Writing Awards is May 1. Entries will automatically be considered in each of the competitions for which they are eligible. Click on the links for full details. An entry form is available online.

Awards open to all Canadian students:

Students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in any Canadian university can apply for the biennial Norma Epstein National Award (next deadline: May 1, 2017). The sum of approximately $2,000 will be awarded every two years for substantial work in the categories of Poetry, Drama, Novel, and Short Story. An entry form is available online. Note: students enrolled in University College must enter the UC competition.


Past award winners include David Adams Richards, Barbara Amiel, Stephanie Bolster, David Cronenberg, Janice Kulyk Keefer, Michelle Landsberg, Anne Michaels, Michael Ondaatje, James Reaney, and Miriam Waddington.
