Q: What does my UC meal plan cover?

A: Your UC meal plan can be used at Howard Ferguson Dining Hall or at Reznikoff's Cafe. Both are located at 75 St. George Street. If you want to eat elsewhere on campus, you can purchase Flex Dollars.

Q: What types of foods are available?

A: The Servery in the dining hall offers several different options at each meal, from the breakfast bar, salad bar, soup/fruit stand, deli sandwich bar, stir-fry bar, hot entree and grill station. Weekly menus are available online. A range of beverages, snacks and desserts are also available.

Q: I'm a vegetarian / vegan. What are my options?

A: The Servery always offers a vegetarian option at the hot entree station, and we try to provide vegan options as often as possible. We also have salad, sandwich, grill and stir-fry vegetarian options.

Q: What about kosher / halal food?

A: We try to accommodate dietary restrictions of various religious. Most of the meat served is halal. For more information, please contact the UC Food Services manager at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  or (416) 978-7269.

Q: I have a food allergy. What should I do?

A: We try to avoid most common allergens, and we also post ingredients and allergy alerts. For example, we do not have open peanut butter at the breakfast bar or nuts at the salad station. If you have a particular allergy concern, please contact the UC Food Services manager at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  or (416) 978-7269.

Q: Does UC Food Services make a profit?

A: No. University College runs an in-house food service operation on a break-even basis. If you are interested in the food services budget, please contact the Residence office, Food Services manager or your Residence Council food representative.

Q: Do students have a say in the food served at UC?

A: The UC Residence Council has an active Food Committee with representatives from each residence house. Food Services relies heavily on student input to keep improving! If you have questions or comments, please talk to your food rep or contact the Food Services Manager.

Q: How does UC Food Services manage its environmental impact?

A: We take the environment and sustainability very seriously. Among other things, we have introduced:

  • A partnership with Local Food Plus, which sources locally- and sustainably-produced food, thereby reducing transportation costs and ecological impact. Much of the salad bar is organic, as is the fountain milk.
  • Biodegradable takeout containers. Students are also encouraged to bring their own reusable containers.
  • Composting bins in  the kitchen and the dining hall.
  • Environmentally-friendly cleaning products.
  • We hope to replace the dining hall light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs, which we did in in the residence buildings in 2006.
