Cressy Leadership Awards

Every year, University College recognizes five graduating students with the Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Award for outstanding contributions in the improvement of their college community and inspiring others to do the same.

Established in 1994 by the University of Toronto Alumni Association (UTAA) and the Division of University Advancement, the Cressy’s recognize students who have made outstanding extracurricular contributions to their college, faculty or school, or to the university as a whole.

In naming the awards after Gordon Cressy, former vice-president of development and university relations, the UTAA recognized his commitment to higher education and his leadership in fundraising and community service. The qualities of leadership and dedication demonstrated by Mr. Cressy during his six years with the university are also embodied in the efforts of students chosen to receive this award – students who are committed to making a difference.

UC students who have demonstrated significant and valuable volunteer contributions to student life at the college will have demonstrated the following:

  • leadership on committees or influence on student or university affairs
  • improvement in the quality of life of students
  • contributions to the co-curricular experience
  • encouragement of fellow students to become involved in co-curricular activities
  • contribution to the sense of community at University College

The 2018 Cressy nomination period is now open.

All students graduating in November 2017 or June 2018 are eligible to be nominated for a Cressy Award.
