Health and care of the aging population, especially those with neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, is a mounting global concern. Research is enabling a better understanding of healthy brain aging as well as the underlying mechanisms of disease. While treatments to stop the progression of Alzheimer’s disease are not available yet, progress has been made in the last 20 years that provide hope. This discussion will highlight some of the progress being made and factors that can affect brain health.
