The JCR Needs some TLC
The Junior Common Room (JCR) is a much-loved and much-used lounge at University College. Students read, relax, sleep, study, meet with friends, and enjoy downtime in this inspiring, historical space. In past decades, students have played bridge here, held formal dances, prepared for Orientation events, and much more. However, over the years, a lot of wear and tear has occurred from regular use. For the JCR to be truly comfortable and functional for 21st century students, key upgrades are required.
With your assistance, the couches will be reupholstered, the tables (and throne) will be refinished, and fifteen electrical outlets will be added for laptop computer use. Also as part of this project, the floor will be refinished and so will the stairs and bannisters at either end of the space. The historical walls will be safeguarded so that everyone can continue to see the names of those who served on The Literary & Athletic Society and the Women’s Undergraduate Association.
We look forward to improving the look of the JCR in honour of all students and alumni who have used the space and for everyone who is yet to come. If the JCR is a meaningful place for you, or if you believe it is an important place for students, please make a financial contribution today. You will receive a charitable tax receipt in the full amount of your gift, and you will be recognized on the UC website and a special section of UC Magazine. Our goal for this project is to raise $100,000 to complete the renovations before the end of September 2016.
Thank you for your consideration.
