The University College community recently gathered to celebrate some of its most accomplished members at the second annual Alumni of Influence awards gala and dinner, held on November 14, 2013 at the Fermenting Cellar in Toronto’s historic Distillery District.
More than 140 guests, including 18 of the 20 honourees and their friends and family, as well as current UC students and faculty members, came together for the induction ceremony.
Officiating was master of ceremonies Liem Vu, a UC graduate and reporter on Global TV’s The Morning Show. Speakers included Mark Adler, UC alum and Member of Parliament for York Centre, who brought greetings on behalf of the government of Canada, as well as newly minted University of Toronto President Meric Gertler, a longtime UC faculty member.
“The Alumni of Influence awards were born out of the belief that the wonderful success stories of UC alumni should be known to current students and fellow graduates,” said UC Principal Donald Ainslie, who presented the awards.
Attendees enjoyed musical entertainment provided by students from the Faculty of Music, including a performance of Fanfare of Illumination, an original score composed in honour of UC students and alumni.
The banquet marked the second installment of a new tradition that sees University College add to its prestigious roster of Alumni of Influence annually on the basis of nominations from the UC community.
