The Founding College of the University of Toronto

Statement from Principal Markus Stock in Solidarity with University College’s Black Community Members

Announcements

In response to recent events, on behalf of the University College community, I would like to reassert our profound condemnation of anti-Black racism and all forms of racial and other discrimination. University College, in step with the University of Toronto, stands in solidarity with Black members of our community at this extremely difficult time. We recognize that Black members of our community are subject to systemic injustice and reaffirm our commitment to inclusion and diversity as University College’s defining and foundational values.

It is our collective responsibility to ensure that University College continues to be an open, welcoming, and safe space for all of our students, and to safeguard equity on campus and beyond. The close ties among our students, alumni, faculty members, and staff provide a strong foundation for this vital work, and I encourage you to continue caring for one another as we confront anti-Black racism and all forms of discrimination.

If you or someone you know is struggling during this time of adversity, please consult the resources available through the University of Toronto and reach out to us at UC as a first step. We are committed to supporting you as we renounce racism and structural injustice.

Sincerely,

Markus Stock
Principal, University College
