Volunteer or Donate

Volunteers run the UC Book Sale!  We are always looking for help with our many projects. We need help picking up donations, sorting and pricing books in our workrooms at the College, preparing books for the autumn sale, staffing the Book Shop, running the internet store, and operating the fall sale as well as special sales during the year.

Volunteers bring life and professional skills which help sustain the UC Book Sale as a long-standing College tradition. Over the past 30 years, hundreds of volunteers, alumni and friends of the College have had fun, reconnected with old classmates and made new friends while helping to raise money for students, the Laidlaw Library and other College projects.

How often would you like to work with us: occasionally, weekly, monthly, bi-monthly, once a year? We have different roles and tasks to suit your needs and schedule.

If you are interested in our projects, please contact us and we can talk about how you might be able to help.

Donate Books

Please donate used items in good condition such as books, DVDs, CDs, video cassettes and games.

Our volunteers handle over 100,000 donations a year in our workrooms. Incoming books are sorted and directed to various sections of the Book Sale or to appropriate university libraries. Items which the Book Sale cannot use or sell go to student groups and non-profit organizations.

Your donations give students access to low-cost reading materials, divert waste from landfills, and help keep books in circulation. We are an important source for out-of-print books for readers and collectors. Revenues from the sale of donated books support students and the UC Library.

We accept donations of up to 4 boxes on weekdays at our Book Shop in University College, Room A102 near the southwest corner of the quadrangle.   The Book Shop is open Monday to Thursday 11:00 am - 6:00 pm, Friday 12:00 noon - 4:00 pm, closed Saturdays and Sundays as well as holidays.

If you have more than 4 boxes to donate please contact us to arrange drop off in our workroom on Tuesday or Thursday or to ask for a pickup of your books. Please contact us to arrange the details.

Please Note

We regret that we cannot sell Readers' Digest condensed books, National Geographic and other magazines, encyclopedias (some exceptions apply), out-of-date-textbooks or books with heavy highlighting or ink underlining as well as damaged paper-back books.

All donors must use liquor-sized boxes and pack the books lying flat rather than on end.
