The Sobey Art Award Exhibit, on display at the University of Toronto Art Museum at University College through December 9, was recently covered in The Globe and Mail. The prestigous award recognizes a Canadian artist aged 40 and under who has exhibited in a public or commercial art gallery.
Last night, the winner of the Sobey Art Award was revealed at a gala held in the University College Quadrangle.
Ursula Johnson, a Mi'kmaw performance and installation artist from Nova Scotia, was honoured for the "strong voice, generosity and collaborative spirit" in her body of work, which challenges and explores issues of identity, traditional Indigenous culture, and colonial history.
