Position Summary: Contract May 1, 2026 to August 31, 2026

The Welcome Desk Assistant (Casual) is a front-line, customer service-focused role based in the University College Porter’s Office (UC171). The position provides a consistent, professional, and welcoming point of contact for students, faculty, staff, visitors, and service providers.

The role supports the daily operation of the College by managing inquiries, coordinating deliveries, answering the UC main phone line, and maintaining an active front-of-house presence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist students, faculty, staff, visitors, and service providers
  • Answer and direct calls to the UC main phone line
  • Receive, log, and coordinate deliveries
  • Provide wayfinding and general information
  • Maintain shift logs and report operational, safety, or maintenance issues
  • Support general awareness of building activity and redirect concerns to senior UC staff

Available Shifts (Monday to Friday):

  • 7:30 am – 11:30 am
  • 11:00 am – 3:00 pm
  • 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Note: The Porter’s Office (UC171) is not staffed on University holidays or during official University closures.

Qualifications

  • Current University of Toronto students (undergraduate or graduate) preferred
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and respond to a high volume of inquiries
  • Previous customer service or reception experience is an asset

Requirements

  • Availability to work scheduled weekday shifts
  • On-the-job training will be provided
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada in this position
