In Course Scholarships
Gift of the late F.C.A. Jeanneret (UC 1912), formerly principal of University College and chancellor of the University, and the late Mrs. Jeanneret, in memory of their son, Kenneth Geikie Jeanneret, (UC 1939), who was killed in action in February 1945. The scholarship will be awarded where there may be special need for an award.

Graduating Year Awards
The Kiyoshi and Hana Shimizu Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Kiyoshi and Hana Shimizu by their son Tsutomu (UC 1951). This award is intended to support a student graduating from University College and going on to further study, who intends to make teaching his or her lifetime career. Preference will be given to those going on to primary- or secondary-school teaching, but post-secondary teaching will also be eligible. The award will be made on the basis of academic merit and dedication to the teaching profession. Financial circumstances may also be considered, but will not have priority.

Financial Need Awards
To award one or more bursaries, with a preference to UC students in an English program from the estates of Minnie White and her sister Lillian Lerenbaum (UC’31) in memory of Lillian Lerenbaum’s daughter Miriam. Eligible students are automatically considered.

Graduating Year Awards
The Madeline Lake Turnbull Fellowship is the bequest of Madeline Turnbull (UC 1929). Of the value of the annual income from the fund, this award shall go to an outstanding student who is going on to do graduate work in French or who will have French as an important part of his or her course of study.

Bequest of the late Professor Margaret Jane Sinden (UC 1937), who taught German at University College from 1946 to 1979; scholarship is of the value of the annual income from the fund.  Preference will be given to a student taking German who is enrolled in the specialist program in Modern Languages and Literatures, or who is taking a program of courses equivalent to or leading toward that specialty.

Travel Awards
Established by a bequest of Margaret Jean Leppington (UC 1950), this award assists University College students to travel abroad in order to study in the modern languages other than English. The value and number of scholarships are variable according to need and academic merit.

The Marlene Kirsch Korman Memorial Scholarship is to be awarded to the most highly qualified student (with at least A standing) graduating from University College with a BSc and entering a professional school or faculty.
