Scholarships & Awards

Gift of graduates of University College and other friends of the late Professor Malcolm Wallace, former principal of University College and head of the Department of English. The award has a value of approximately $2,000 cash with a total possible value of $4,000, for excellence in any subject or for general proficiency. Awarded to a student intending to specialize in English. The scholarships include tuition allowance of $500 per year which is renewable with an annual grade point average of at least 3.50 on a course load of 4 full course equivalents (FCEs) from September to September.

Bequest of the late Florence Louisa Cody; awarded for general proficiency.

Gift of the late Sir John Gibson (UC 1863). The value is approximately $400 plus the tuition allowance for a total possible value of approximately $2,400 over four years; awarded for general proficiency. The scholarships include tuition allowance of $500 per year which is renewable with an annual grade point average of at least 3.50 on a course load of 4 full credit equivalents (FCEs) from September to September.

Gift of the late J.S. McLean. The awards have a value of $1000 each; the number is determined by the balance of the income from the fund; awarded for general proficiency.

The Sydney Hermant Admission Scholarship/Bursary is to be awarded to a student who combines academic potential and financial need with community interest and social involvement as demonstrated at the high school level. This scholarship, given in honour of Sydney Hermant by his four sons, is to provide support of an all-round student in the first year of University study. The selection of such a student to be at the sole discretion of the Principal of University College. 

Gift of James Mossman (UC 1981) in honour of his father Ted Mossman. These awards have a value of approximately $1,000 and are given to students showing exceptional promise. Preference may be given to students intending to study mathematics.

Financial need will be the primary criterion on which the awards are based. Recipients must satisfy the eligibility requirements of the OSOTF and OTSS programs.

Gift of the late Arthur Cohen (UC 1903).  The value is approximately $500 plus the tuition allowance for a total possible value of approximately $2,500 over four years; awarded for general proficiency, including English and French. The scholarships include tuition allowance of $500 per year which is renewable with an annual grade point average of at least 3.50 on a course load of 4 full credit equivalents (FCEs) from September to September.

Preference will be given to a student intending to specialize in Classics.
