Scholarships & Awards

To be granted to undergraduate students at University College on the basis of financial need. Eligible students are identified through the University's UTAPS program. 

The John and Annie Crichton Memorial Award provides a bursary to an accomplished student in financial need. Preference is given to a student taking courses in modern languages or philosophy. This award was established in honour of June Surgey, past Director of University College Alumni & Development, to assist University College students who have financial need to live in residence.

These bursaries are a gift from the students and alumni of University College in honour of former principal D.V. LePan and former registrar R.M.H. Shepherd. The value of the bursaries is based on the annual income of the fund. Apply using the online grant application available on ACORN.

To award one or more bursaries, with a preference to UC students in an English program from the estates of Minnie White and her sister Lillian Lerenbaum (UC’31) in memory of Lillian Lerenbaum’s daughter Miriam. Eligible students are automatically considered.

To be awarded on the basis of financial need to full-time, undergraduate students enrolled in the Humanities in University College with preference to those studying Philosophy. Eligible candidates are identified through the University's UTAPS program.

Established by a gift of the University College Committee in appreciation of Professor Forguson’s term as principal of University College (1989-97), these awards are intended to assist University College students to benefit from the advantages of living in the college’s residences. Financial need is the primary criterion in selecting recipients, but academic merit and community involvement are also considered. Bequest of the late Isabelle Paris MacLachlan (UC 1911), of variable number and value within the limits of the annual income from the fund, available to female students. In awarding these scholarships, financial circumstances will be considered as well as academic standing. Bequest of the late Miss Catherine S. Michell and Colonel William C. Michell, formerly principal of Riverdale Collegiate Institute. Awards are based on financial need. Academic merit may also be considered. Awards are variable in number and value depending on students’ financial need. Any balance of income may be used for in-course awards of variable value.
