When UC student Floria Kangootui crossed the stage at Convocation Hall last week, she thought about how far she’s come. While she always planned to continue her education when she fled Namibia for Canada 12 years ago, obstacles kept getting in the way — until she discovered the Transitional Year Program (TYP).

There is a certain logic to the story of how University College alum John Lorinc dreamed of being an astrophysicist but instead became a star journalist and author. 

It is with deep sorrow and regret that the UC community mourns the passing of esteemed alum, Daniel Brooks. Brooks graduated from the UC Drama Program and earned his BA from University College in 1981. The first winner of the Siminovitch prize (Canada's most prestigious drama prize) Brooks was also UC's Barker Fairley Distinguished Visitor in 2017-18, and a UC Alumni of Influence awardee in 2018.

Yesterday, the diverse UofT community came together to launch Defy Gravity – the new University of Toronto fundraising and alumni engagement campaign. University College was proud to see some familiar faces featured in the exceptional launch video that was unveiled to the public on Monday, December 13, 2021. UC looks forward to being a part of this next chapter in UofT's history. Together, we can rise to the challenge of creating a more inclusive, hopeful, and healthy future for all.
