Welcome to the Health Studies Program at University College! In Health Studies, students critically examine the factors that shape the health of individuals and populations.
We explore how health is shaped by the circumstances in which people are born, grow, live, work, play, and age, and how these in turn connect to a wider set of environmental, social, economic, and political forces. We investigate the impact of systems put in place to deal with illness, and examine how understandings of health are shaped by the cultures we live in and by competing claims about health and disease.
Understanding health requires knowledge from a range of disciplines and sectors: we bring insights from across the social sciences, sciences and humanities together in a stimulating environment that challenges students to think about health in new ways. Health Studies students build the skills they need to investigate – and build solutions to – health challenges, locally and globally.
