Dining Dollars (DD)
Dining Dollars (or DD) are a unique and special part of summer housing at University College. Everyone receives a Dining Dollar card at registration. The card can be used to purchase meals and snacks at Reznikoff’s Cafe, located on the ground floor of Morrison Hall. Our summer housing rates are already very competitive. Dining Dollars makes them even more convenient and affordable.
Cafe Hours:
Monday to Thursday 8am to 6pm
Friday 8am to 3pm
Our Residences
Location
Two UC residences are open for summer housing: Morrison Hall and Whitney Hall.
Morrison Hall is located at 75 St. George Street, Toronto, Ontario, M5S 2E5. View a map.
Whitney Hall is located at 85 St. George Street, Toronto, Ontario, M5S 2E5. View a map.
Rooms
Morrison Hall and Whitney Hall provide spartan but clean and comfortable study bedrooms. All rooms have single beds, a chair, desk/dresser, bookcase, desk lamp and closet space. Please note that cleaning service is not provided in individual rooms.
Internet Connectivity
For information about internet access and our policies in UC residence, please click here.
Air Conditioning
All rooms at Morrison Hall are air-conditioned (this is why rent is slightly higher at Morrison Hall). Rooms in Whitney Hall are not air-conditioned, but they are all equipped with a ceiling fan. Guests staying at Whitney during the hot weeks of the summer may wish to bring their own personal fan.
Linen
Residents are provided with one blanket and one pillow. Residents must provide their own sheets (for a single bed) and towels.
Washrooms
Shared washroom facilities, including toilets and showers, are located on all floors. Washrooms are coed (shared by both sexes). Toilet and shower stalls are private and can be locked from the inside.
Kitchens
Morrison Hall and Whitney hall have small, shared kitchens. The kitchen facilities in Morrison Hall are rather limited. There are five small kitchenettes on different floors that are each equipped with one microwave oven and one fridge. Whitney Hall has eight kitchenettes on the upper floors, as well as two larger kitchens on the main floor. Whitney's larger kitchens are each equipped with two regular-sized ovens, a microwave oven and a fridge. Kitchens in Whitney Hall are available only to Whitney residents.
Telephones
Telephones are not provided in residence rooms. Each room is equipped with a telephone jack. Summer residents who wish to have telephone service in their room must arrange this directly with the provider (e.g., Rogers or Bell) at their own cost. There are public payphones in Whitney Hall.
Porter
The Porters' offices are located at the main entrance of each residence. They are open from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., seven days a week. Security staff patrol the buildings when the Porters’ offices are closed.
Building Access
Exterior doors to residence buildings are always locked. Each resident will receive a key that will allow them to access their building at any time of the day or night.
Laundry
Pay washers and dryers are available in Morrison Hall and Whitney Hall.
Children
Shared washrooms, kitchens and lounges make our residences unsuitable for small children.
Parking
Smoking
University College Residences are non-smoking facilities. Smoking is strictly prohibited in UC residences, including individual rooms.
Application Form
Applications will only be accepted from persons who are students or staff at any college or university in the world.
All applications must include a Visa/MasterCard number to guarantee your reservation. This number will only be charged $175.00 if you do not show up on your arrival date, or if you cancel your reservation less than two weeks before your arrival date.
Rent and your key/damage deposit must be paid when you arrive to pick up the keys to your room. Rent can be paid by Visa, MasterCard, Interac, or cash. If you are paying by Visa or MasterCard, make sure to have the card with you. We cannot use the number written on your application form.
Completed application forms should be mailed or faxed to the address and number at the bottom of the application. Applications can also be dropped off at the Whitney Hall porter's office at 85 St. George Street. Do not email your applications -- we do not have a secure server to protect your credit card number.
Specific rooms are not assigned in advance. You may request a specific room, and we will try to honor your request, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.
Persons requesting a twin room in Whitney Hall must provide the name of the person with whom they will be sharing the room. Both persons must submit a separate application and Visa/MasterCard number in order to reserve a twin room.
Applications do not guarantee accommodation. They will be considered based on availability.
Reservations will be confirmed by email if an email address is provided on your application.
Our summer session ends at noon on Wednesday, August 21. We will not confirm reservations for departures after August 21.
Arrival and Registration
The registration desk is located at 85 St. George Street. It is open from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., seven days a week.
Rooms will be available starting at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013. The summer session ends at noon on Wednesday, August 21, 2013.
During arrival and registration, all guests must read and sign an Occupancy Agreement that states the rules and conditions of living in the residences. They must present proof that they are a student or staff member at a college or university (e.g., a valid student card, or a letter printed on official letterhead that states they are a student or staff member).
We require that all guests pay a $200 key/damage deposit. This can be paid in cash or by means of a credit card imprint. It will be refunded at check-out if keys are returned and no damage has been done to the room.
The first installment of rent (depending on whether they are paying by the week, by the month, or for the session) is due at the time of arrival and registration. Rent payments can be made by Visa, MasterCard, Interac or cash. Personal cheques are not accepted.
Prior to arriving, please take a moment to review the appropriate Occupancy Agreement. You will be required to sign this document upon arrival at the residence (you do not need to bring this document with you as it will be provided by our staff upon registration).
