Recent UC graduate Alptekin Goksan was the recipient of the University of Toronto St. George’s 2025 Governor General’s Silver Medal. Awarded to the student with the highest average from a University of Toronto undergraduate program in each of the three U of T campuses, Goksan was the second consecutive UC student to receive the award, having earned grades of 100% in half of the courses completed while pursuing a specialist in mathematics and a major in biochemistry.

For many students, an academic suspension can feel like the end of the road. But a new pilot program by University College and Victoria College at Victoria University in the University of Toronto is showing it can instead be a turning point. The Skills Towards Academic Recovery (STAR) program launched in summer 2025 at University College and Victoria College designed specifically for suspended students.

Excitement mounts as Orientation Week kicks off at University College. This past weekend, hundreds of new students arrived on college grounds to participate in orientation activities at UC and beyond, marking the beginning of their undergraduate journeys.
Comprising the student-run, week-long UC Orientation and the college-administered and academically-focused Thrive Orientation, for many students, Orientation Week is the first opportunity to set foot on campus and understand key elements of college life.
