Two UCers are the driving force behind the Vector Institute, a newly announced hub for artificial intelligence research in Toronto. University College faculty member Geoffrey Hinton, a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Computer Science and Google Engineering Fellow, will serve as its Chief Scientific Adviser. Alumnus Ed Clark (BA 1969 UC), former TD Bank CEO, is the Vector Institute's board chair.
Students enrolled in University College’s signature academic programs gathered in East and West Hall recently for Research and Practice Day. The annual event showcases undergraduate students’ year-end projects and research findings on topics as varied as food addiction, sex education, and robotics, just to name a few.

University College faculty member Gillian Einstein was named the inaugural Wilfred and Joyce Posluns Chair in Women’s Brain Health and Aging in December 2016. She recently spoke about her research into women's brain health with U of T News.
University College faculty member Jordan Bear, an Associate Professor in the Department of Art, has published a new book, Disillusioned: Victorian Photography and the Discerning Subject, which won the prestigious 2016 Historians of British Art book award for a post-1800 subject.
