Bob Rae (BA 1969 UC) Appointed Canada's Special Envoy to Myanmar

Former Ontario premier and University College alumnus Bob Rae (BA 1969 UC) has been appointed Canada's special envoy to Myanmar by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

At the end of his mandate in January, Rae will deliver an independent report advising the government of Canada on how to respond to the Rohingya refugee crisis in Myanmar. Read more in U of T News.

UCers Provincial Champs in Golf, Mountain Biking

University College students were at the top of the podium at The Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championships this fall. Wensi Liu, Ian MacDonald, Garrett Smith, and Adrian Tyrrell of the Varsity Blues Mountain Biking Team took the honours at the provincial university championship, while golfer Ellice Hong helped propel the Varsity Blues Women's Golf Team to the top; she was also named an OUA Team All-Star.

UC Alumni Wear Orange in Support of Residential School Survivors

University College graduates Jennifer Sylvester (BA 2017 UC) and Safia Gahary (BA 2008 UC) donned orange shirts as part of a national campaign to commemorate residential school survivors. Sylvester, now a master's student at OISE, helped to organize the event. Our objective is for people to understand the true history of residential school survivors in Canada," she said.
