Canadian Studies Awards

 

Selection Criteria

Application based Canadian Studies Award selection is done by the Director of Canadian Studies on the following basis:

  • Academic merit
  • Meeting OSOTF/OTSS requirements (OSAP recipient) where required
  • Engagement with a Canadian Studies program and/or course
  • Clear demonstration of award conditions through extracurricular involvement or outstanding academic work 

 

Application Submission and Deadline

The application-based Canadian Studies Awards application consists of two or three steps, depending on the award:

  1. This application form
  2. A personal statement (max. 200 words) on how you feel you meet the criteria of the award description. If applying for multiple awards, please provide a statement for each award in a single document. 
  3. Submission of a relevant essay or major assignment that fits the award description (if required). In your personal statement, please include the course name and code for which the assignment was completed.

 

The deadline to submit an application to the Canadian Studies Awards is October 31st annually. Recently graduated students are eligible to apply. Applications will be reviewed alongside the Canadian Studies Awards that are automatic consideration. Applicants will be notified of award decisions late in the fall term.

Canadian Studies Awards

 

The Canadian Studies Interdisciplinary Prize, generously supported by Peter Warrian, is awarded to an undergraduate student who writes the best essay on any interdisciplinary aspect of Canadian life, thought, or society and is in financial need. The student must be in the Canadian Studies program or enrolled in a University college course that is sponsored by the Canadian Studies department. Recipient must meet OSOTF eligibility.
This fund is intended to support an undergraduate essay award in the area of Chinese Canadian community studies which will be open to all U of T undergraduate students.
To be awarded in recognition of student work in Asian Canadian Studies. The selection will be based on the recommendation of the Director of the Canadian Studies Program, who will consider financial need, academic performance and extracurricular activities. Recipients must satisfy the eligibility requirements of the OSOTF II program. Students from all colleges are eligible.
The Wanda O’Hagan Scholarship is awarded to a Canadian Studies undergraduate student who has demonstrated a commitment to women’s equality and is in financial need. The prize is awarded based on both academic and extracurricular activity. To be eligible, the student must be enrolled in at least one University College course sponsored by the Canadian Studies Program in the year for which the award is given. Recipient must meet OSOTF eligibility.
