UC is delighted to announce that longstanding staff member and registrar Ryan Woolfrey has been named a 2025 Jill Matus Award for Excellence in Student Services recipient. The award is awarded to individual staff members who demonstrate excellence in the area of student services and whose contributions go above and beyond the responsibilities of their job.

How familiar are you with Black Canadian history?  “So many people educated in Canada, or external to Canada, don't know about the long-standing presence of Black people in this country,” says UC faculty member Funké Aladejebi, an associate professor with the Faculty of Arts & Science’s Department of History. “This breadth of knowledge on Black Canadian history often gets ignored or is not often inserted into broader courses on Canadian history.”

Dacian Dawes decided to pursue a certificate in Black Canadian Studies at University College to uncover the untold histories of Canada and learn how to effectively advocate and work alongside marginalized communities. Along the experience of working within the Ontario government, the course, “Black Canadian History” gave her a new understanding and methods of how she can stand up for others.

University College at the University of Toronto invites applications for the University College Fellow in Early American History, a one-year part-time (0.50) position (with the possibility of a one-year renewal) at the rank of Assistant Professor, generously funded by a bequest from Madeleine Cummins Meyer. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2025, by which time the successful candidate must hold a Ph.D.

Award-winning artist, writer and educator Richard Fung is UC’s 2024 Barker Fairley Distinguished Visitor. Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, Fung lives and works in Toronto.
