As a new University College student adjusting to university life, Gaby Snache was determined to find community, particularly among her Indigenous peers. “Growing up on reserve, I always had access to culture and community,” says Snache, who is of Anishinaabe and Filipino descent and a member of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation. “I was looking for that sense of connection at U of T and specifically to find other Indigenous students who shared a similar experience.”

From the High Arctic tundra to the red carpet in Cannes, filmmaker Zacharias Kunuk has redefined Indigenous storytelling in cinema and changed how the world sees Inuit life. Two weeks ago, for his acclaimed achievements in the arts and entertainment as one of Canada’s most internationally celebrated filmmakers, Kunuk receive a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, from the University of Toronto at UC's afternoon convocation ceremony.

The new building will bring together the Centre for Indigenous Studies, First Nations House Indigenous Student Services and the Office of Indigenous Initiatives

UC is delighted to announce that longstanding staff member and registrar Ryan Woolfrey has been named a 2025 Jill Matus Award for Excellence in Student Services recipient. The award is awarded to individual staff members who demonstrate excellence in the area of student services and whose contributions go above and beyond the responsibilities of their job.
