2024 Barker Fairley Distinguished Visitor Event
Carrying Patterns
Sunday May 12, 2024
2:00 - 4:00 PM EDT
Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse
79 St George St., Toronto, ON
The 2024 Barker Fairley Distinguished Visitor event is being held in-person and registration is required. Faculty, students, staff, and the public are cordially invited to this performance lecture by Barker Fairley Distinguished Visitor, Ange Loft, with guests Monique Mojica, Olivia Shortt and Jay Havens.
About
Take part in an interdisciplinary investigation of pottery patterns discovered on archaeological shards across the city. Through an exchange guided by sound generation, sculpting activity, and embodied pattern work, Loft interprets the shards as though she were an experimental artist from a pre-contact St. Lawrence river valley.
The sharing is guided by a performance of MTL1500, incorporating Loft's approach to pattern familiarity building through the application of Haudenosaunee-style sung vocables, clay pattern replication and Kanien'keha language layering.
In an exchange of creative methodologies, the Toronto shards are treated with the same approach, working with guests to make meaning and memory from the patterns buried under this city.

Thank you for your interest in our upcoming 2024 Barker Fairley Distinguished Visitor event. This event has reached capacity and registration is now closed
