Scholarships

A key priority for our College is increasing the number of scholarships and awards for students from all backgrounds and walks of life.  Your contribution can make this priority a reality.

Alumni support of UC Scholarships & Awards provides students with the resources they need to thrive and succeed at the College and beyond.  Students tell us that receiving an award not only reduces their financial stress, but also gives them a boost in confidence to continue to pursue their goals.

Read about student award recipients in our Donor Impact Report

Thanks to UC Supporters:

  • 1086 students received awards in the 2021-2022 academic year, which was approximately 20% of UC’s total student population. The average award was $1,182.
  • Over 230 scholarships and financial aid awards are available to UC students, including 10 leadership awards and 5 writing awards.

Create a personalized scholarship

Many alumni choose to create student awards because of a desire to give back, to celebrate their connection to the College, to honour loved ones, and to help the next generation of students to succeed.  Please consider making a donation today. We would be pleased to discuss a variety of scholarship options with you that align with your philanthropic interests and the College’s priorities.  New expendable and endowed awards can be created with a minimum commitment of $12,500 and $25,000 respectively, and can be paid over five years.

You may choose to support students in a particular area of study, based on academic achievement, financial need, community service, and more.  Awards can be designated to underrepresented groups.  Currently, Indigenous students and Black students have been identified as underrepresented groups in the University Policy on Student Awards.

Boundless Promise Program

As Canada’s leading public university, U of T has pledged that no qualified undergraduate will have to decline admission or withdraw from studies due to financial circumstances. Our donors have made this remarkable commitment possible.

The University of Toronto’s Boundless Promise Program provides needs-based scholarships to students and includes a matching component.

When a donor makes such a gift, the contribution is invested in U of T’s endowment, which in turn generates a permanent annual payout for the student award. The University matches the payout 1:1, thus doubling the impact of the donation. These matching funds go above and beyond what the university already commits to student financial aid annually.

Create a Boundless Promise scholarship for UC students with a minimum pledge of $25,000 to be paid over a maximum of five years.  For more information, contact the UC Advancement Office at 416-978-3803.
