University College is thrilled to announce that Dr. Jonathan Bayer has joined our faculty as the new UC Fellow in Early American History.

Dr. Bayer holds a doctorate in history from the University of Western Ontario and a master’s in history from the University of Windsor. His research focuses on the early American press and Canadian-American relations in addition to racialization, national identities, and settler colonialism in North America. He has previously taught as a sessional lecturer here at University College as well as University of Toronto Mississauga, the University of Western Ontario, Wilfrid Laurier University, Huron University College, and Brescia University College.

Starting this fall, Dr. Bayer will teach courses on topics such as racialization in colonial America and the United States, Canadian-American relations, the early American press, and the historical and modern contexts of Hamilton: An American Musical

“I’m very excited to return to the place where my teaching career began,” he says, “The chance to teach at such a storied institution is a dream come true, and I couldn’t be happier to again be a part of University College!”
