The Founding College of the University of Toronto

A Message from Principal Markus Stock to Graduating Students Regarding Convocation

Announcements

Dear UC students graduating in June 2020,

I am writing to you regarding University College Convocation, originally scheduled for June 11, 2020.

By now, you have likely heard that the University of Toronto has made the difficult decision to cancel Convocation ceremonies planned for June 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I understand that this news comes as a profound disappointment to you, your classmates and loved ones, who were looking forward to celebrating your achievements at a traditional ceremony. Please know that I share in your disappointment, as do all members of the University College community.

We appreciate that Convocation is not only the culmination of all your hard work and sacrifice, it is also a milestone that marks the start of the next phase of your life. We would be remiss if we did not give you a proper send-off as you transition from UC students to UC alumni.

That is why University College, in step with the Faculty of Arts & Science, has committed to an in-person celebration at a date when it is safe to do so. We are actively considering creative ways to mark this momentous occasion. It may not be a traditional U of T Convocation, but it will be a joyful event that you will be able to look back on with pride.

We will be in touch with more information as soon as possible. In the meantime, please accept my best wishes as you complete your course work and exams.

Sincerely,

Markus Stock
Principal, University College
