The competition is held biennially and is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in any Canadian University. Established in 1963 in memory of Norma Epstein (UC ’45), from surpluses accumulated in the fund, it supports prizes of up to a total of $2,000, each year in the categories of Poetry, Drama, Novel, Short Story, and Other Prose.

To provide funding for undergraduate students who identify as LGBTQ or who are pursuing studies with a focus on sexual diversity at the University of Toronto. The awards will be based on financial need and academic merit with a preference for Canadian residents. These awards will be made in consultation with the Sexual Diversity Studies Awards Committee. Awards will vary in number and value and will be open to students of other colleges and divisions of the University.

Gift of various donors in appreciation of Professor Paul Perron’s term as Principal of University College (1997 – 2005). To be awarded to UC students who are enrolled in a minimum course load of 3.0 with a GPA of at least 3.0. Gifted by the Pride and Remembrance Foundation. Preference to students in the Sexual Diversity Studies (SDS) program. Though preference will be given to students registered in the SDS program, awards may also be given to other lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students at the University of Toronto. The primary criterion will be financial need in accordance with the requirements of the Ontario Trust for Student Support program (OTSS). Other criteria may also be considered, such as academic achievement or outstanding volunteer contributions on or off campus aimed at increasing acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

The J. R. MacGillivray Fellowship is a gift of Elinor MacGillivray in honour of her husband, Professor J.R. MacGillivray, professor of English in University College, 1930-70. To be awarded to a student graduating from University College and pursuing graduate study in the humanities at the University of Toronto.
