Scholarships & Awards

For students enrolled in the Sexual Diversity Studies program. Awarded to a student with financial need. Scholarships and awards will be given to students without regard to students’ college membership.  Recipients must satisfy the eligibility requirements of the OSOTF II / OTSS program. 

Gift of various donors in appreciation of Professor Paul Perron’s term as Principal of University College (1997 – 2005). To be awarded to UC students who are enrolled in a minimum course load of 3.0 with a GPA of at least 3.0. The award must be made in accordance with the UofT Policy on Student Awards and OSOTF II / OTSS program guidelines. Apply using the online grant application available on ACORN.

Gift of his students, colleagues and friends in honour of Peter V. Marinelli (1933-93), professor of English in University College (1963-93). To be awarded for excellent performance by a University College student enrolled in the specialist program in English.

Gifted by the Pride and Remembrance Foundation. Preference to students in the Sexual Diversity Studies (SDS) program. Though preference will be given to students registered in the SDS program, awards may also be given to other lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students at the University of Toronto. The primary criterion will be financial need in accordance with the requirements of the Ontario Trust for Student Support program (OTSS). Other criteria may also be considered, such as academic achievement or outstanding volunteer contributions on or off campus aimed at increasing acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Bequest of Professor T.J. Meek (UC 1903), distinguished scholar and head of the Department of Near Eastern Studies of which he was a member from 1923 until 1952; professor emeritus until his death in 1966. Variable as to number and value. Gifted by Eleanor Thomson, the wife of Professor Thomson. Awarded to a student in Classics and/or History with financial need. Recipients must satisfy the eligibility requirements of the OTSS program. Apply using the online grant application available on ACORN.

The J. R. MacGillivray Fellowship is a gift of Elinor MacGillivray in honour of her husband, Professor J.R. MacGillivray, professor of English in University College, 1930-70. To be awarded to a student graduating from University College and pursuing graduate study in the humanities at the University of Toronto. 

Bequest of the late Colonel R.W. Leonard, each of the value of $500. One gives preference to the humanities, one to the social sciences, one to the physical sciences and one is open. (Four scholarships offered in each of first, second, third and fourth years.)

Bequest of the late Colonel R.W. Leonard, each of the value of $700 cash, with a total possible value of $2,700, for excellence in any subjects or for general proficiency. Of these, six are open to candidates from any schools in the province, and four to candidates from outside the Greater Toronto area. The scholarships include tuition allowance of $500 per year which is renewable with an annual grade point average of at least 3.50 on a course load of 4 full credit equivalents (FCEs) from September to September.

Bequest of the late Colonel R.W. Leonard, to a student of University College in any year, enrolled in at least one full course equivalent in Canadian Studies. Preference will be given to a student enrolled in the specialist program in Canadian Studies.
