Gift of graduates of University College and other friends of the late Professor Malcolm Wallace, former principal of University College and head of the Department of English. The award has a value of approximately $2,000 cash with a total possible value of $4,000, for excellence in any subject or for general proficiency. Awarded to a student intending to specialize in English.
The scholarships include tuition allowance of $500 per year which is renewable with an annual grade point average of at least 3.50 on a course load of 4 full course equivalents (FCEs) from September to September.

The Special Woodhouse Prize is the bequest of the late A.S.P. Woodhouse, for many years head of the Department of English. The prize is of the value of up to $5,000 to assist University College graduates to pursue studies in English at graduate schools within or outside Canada.

Preference to a student in the Specialist program in English. One award for each of Second, Third and Fourth Year. Financial need will be the primary criterion in selecting recipients. Established in 1936 by family and friends in memory of Alma Anderson Bastedo (UC 1909) and now including her children, Dorothy Bastedo Cavers (UC 1934), Edgar (Ted) Frank Bastedo (UC 1938), Jean Anne Bastedo and Dr. Donald (Don) Lou Bastedo (UT 1946). To be awarded to a University College student with excellent performance in an English program, with preference to a student whose course of study also includes one or more European languages.
