The Founding College of the University of Toronto
Calling all Mentors!

UC Mentorship

Reconnect with UC and become a mentor to an upper-year student or new grad. Give advice to someone at a critical point in their career. Grow your network and contribute to your college in a meaningful way.

These valuable programs allow you to share your expertise while helping students and new alumni meet the challenges of life after university.

  • Career Mentorship

Reconnect with UC and become a mentor to an upper-year student in this year-long program. Give advice to a student at a critical point in their career. Grow your network and contribute to your college in a meaningful way.

We will be having in-person and digital engagement to connect mentors and mentees to provide accessible, safe, and meaningful connections through the school year.

    How It Works

    1. Complete the application to be a mentor
    2. Students complete their applications and we’ll find an appropriate candidate who matches your field of expertise
    3. Attend the Career Mentorship Orientation and Mixer in the first week of November 2025
    4. Commit to meet with your mentee at least three times, whether online or in person, between November 2025 and March 2026
    5. This is a months-long commitment
  • Backpack to Briefcase (b2B)

The Backpack to Briefcase (b2B) program is a valuable way for University College students and recent grads to connect with experienced UC alumni and learn about career paths available to them.

These networking events see alumni from a given field of study or profession discuss industry tips, employment prospects, and give insight about the professional application of their education.

    How It Works

    1. Complete the application to be a mentor
    2. Select UC alumni will be contacted to be panelists at events focused on a specific industry
    3. This is a one-night-only commitment
  • Speed Mentorship

This fun event allows mentors and mentees to engage in an evening of conversation and connection.

Through a speed networking format, students will have multiple brief conversations with alumni mentors, getting quick guidance on professional life.

Students and new alumni will have the chance to meet alumni from diverse industries, ask questions, and gain insights into the post-undergraduate world in the first half of the evening. The event will conclude with an open networking mixer, allowing for further discussions and connections.

    How It Works

    1. Complete the application to be a mentor
    2. Attend the Speed Mentorship night, offering 1-on-1 guidance to students from diverse backgrounds and fields of study
    3. This is a one-night-only commitment
  • Additional Mentorship Opportunities

From time to time, requests are made to the alumni office for UC alumni to attend mixers, speak as an industry expert in classes, or even speak at an event.

    How It Works

    1. Complete the application to be a mentor
    2. The UC alumni office will keep your application on file and notify you should a suitable opportunity arise

About the Program

  • It is very successful in enhancing the undergraduate student experience at University College.
  • Our dynamic team of alumni mentors is integral to the success of this program.
  • The UC Mentorship Program is a joint venture of the UC Advancement Office and the University College Student Life Office.
  • The Mentorship Program is not a job placement service and students agree not to solicit employment from alumni mentors.

Positive Impact

"The mentorship program was helpful in bridging the gap between what it's like to face problems in the real world-- how to set a course for yourself --and how we think those problems would unfold while we're still in school. I would do it again.”

Joel Crocker,
Computer Science

“A mentor is a person who is interested in your development, a motivator, a coach and, ultimately, a person who wants to help your achieve your goals.”

Ruhi Kiflen,
Global Health and Health Studies
