English Language Learning Fall Activities

Writing Centre

During the fall term, students at UC may partipate in two special activities designed to help students whose first language isn't English, as well as native speakers seeking to improve their English language skills:

  1. Communication Café: Activities focus on helping students whose first language is not English to feel confident expressing their ideas orally. The NEW Communication Cafe schedule includes sessions on emailing professors and TAs, making phone calls in English, Grammar Games, and more (starting September 5, 2019—no registration needed). Sessions are taught by ELL professors and writing centre instructors.
  2. Reading eWriting: Meet with an ELL instructor online to work on your academic reading and writing! The goal of this activity is to strengthen the speed and ease with which you read, reason, and write. Reading eWriting will be offered in Fall 2019 as a free, 3- to 6-week program. Session #1 starts on September 13 and Session #2 starts on October 4.
