University College alumnus and faculty member Jeffrey Rosenthal (BSc 1988 UC), a professor in the Department of Statistical Sciences at U of T, recently recorded an original song entitled Getting By.

Rosenthal, who wrote, recorded, and mixed the song, says, “I was looking for a way to express myself musically during the pandemic isolation, so I decided to make some fun and energetic home recordings in which I would do all the writing and playing and singing and mixing all on my own.”

He describes Getting By as a rock and roll number, “specifically about a teenager struggling with typical teenage challenges such as finances, romance, and school.  But more generally, it applies to all of us who are just trying to survive this crazy time we're living through, not scoring any grand victories but just, well, getting by."

In addition to his teaching and research on statistics, Rosenthal is also the author of the best-sellers Struck by Lightning: The Curious World of Probabilities and Knock On Wood: Luck, Chance, and the Meaning of Everything.
