Professor Pamela Klassen on Religious Freedom and Coronavirus

University College faculty member Pamela Klassen is a professor in the Department for the Study of Religion. In a recent op-ed in The Conversation, she explores why religious freedom has been invoked during protests against COVID-19 public health measures in the United States, but not in Canada.
"The contrasting responses to COVID-19 in Canada and the United States are rooted in very different national attitudes about individual and collective responsibility for public health," she writes.
