Scholarships & Awards

The Samuel James Stubbs Fellowship is the bequest of Helen Eunice Stubbs (UC 1933) in memory of her father, Samuel James Stubbs.  This award is designed to assist a graduating student to pursue graduate study in classics and/or English inside or outside Canada. In selecting a recipient, the committee will be guided mainly by the candidate's financial need, professional interest and academic ability.

Bequest of the late Samuel Joseph Granatstein (UC 1927), of the value of the annual income from the fund. To be awarded for general proficiency in first year.

Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Paul Sussman and the late Mr. Samuel Smith, of the value of the annual income of the fund, to be awarded to a student, preferably in the fourth year, who is studying English and is in need of financial assistance. The Scott-Thomas Memorial Graduate Scholarship is the bequest of the late Lois Margaret Scott-Thomas and is intended to assist university graduates to pursue studies in the field of English literature at graduate schools within or outside Canada. (Preference given to graduates of University College and also to overseas students who enrol in the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Toronto.) 

Gift of graduates of University College and other friends of the late Professor Malcolm Wallace, former principal of University College and head of the Department of English. The award has a value of approximately $2,000 cash with a total possible value of $4,000, for excellence in any subject or for general proficiency. Awarded to a student intending to specialize in English. The scholarships include tuition allowance of $500 per year which is renewable with an annual grade point average of at least 3.50 on a course load of 4 full course equivalents (FCEs) from September to September.

Bequest of the late Florence Louisa Cody; awarded for general proficiency.

The Second Reuben Wells Leonard Fellowship, is to be awarded to a University College student for the purpose of graduate studies within or outside Canada.

To be considered for this award, a student must be registered in SDS program and it must be awarded in accordance with the UofT Policy on Student Awards and OSOTF II / OTSS program guidelines. The SDS Awards Committee makes its selection from among applicants on the basis of financial need and merit. Scholarships and awards will be given to students without regard to students’ college membership.

A bequest of the late Shirley L. Muir (UC 1923), the value of this scholarship is the annual income from the fund. It is for a student with high standing and financial need. Apply using the online grant application available on ACORN.

Gift of the late Sir John Gibson (UC 1863). The value is approximately $400 plus the tuition allowance for a total possible value of approximately $2,400 over four years; awarded for general proficiency. The scholarships include tuition allowance of $500 per year which is renewable with an annual grade point average of at least 3.50 on a course load of 4 full credit equivalents (FCEs) from September to September.
