Scholarships & Awards

Established by a gift of the University College Committee in appreciation of Professor Forguson’s term as principal of University College (1989-97), these awards are intended to assist University College students to benefit from the advantages of living in the college’s residences. Financial need is the primary criterion in selecting recipients, but academic merit and community involvement are also considered. Bequest of the late Isabelle Paris MacLachlan (UC 1911), of variable number and value within the limits of the annual income from the fund, available to female students. In awarding these scholarships, financial circumstances will be considered as well as academic standing. To be awarded to University College students on the basis of academic merit, with a preference for Black and Indigenous students.

Bequest of the late Miss Catherine S. Michell and Colonel William C. Michell, formerly principal of Riverdale Collegiate Institute. Awards are based on financial need. Academic merit may also be considered. Awards are variable in number and value depending on students’ financial need. Any balance of income may be used for in-course awards of variable value. These scholarships are a gift from the late Neil D. Graham (UC '30). These scholarships give preference to the students with the highest grade point average in first, second and third year who demonstrate financial need and are enrolled in a science program. Bequest of Professor T.J. Meek (UC 1903), distinguished scholar and head of the Department of Near Eastern Studies of which he was a member from 1923 until 1952; professor emeritus until his death in 1966. Variable as to number and value. Gift of Bob Rae (UC '69) and Arlene Perly Rae (UC '71) in honour of Mr. Rae's parents. To be awarded to University College students, financial need will be the primary criterion in selecting the recipients. To be awarded to students registered at University College on the basis of financial need. Eligible candidates are identified through the University's UTAPS program.

Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Paul Sussman and the late Mr. Samuel Smith, of the value of the annual income of the fund, to be awarded to a student, preferably in the fourth year, who is studying English and is in need of financial assistance.
