Dr. O’Flynn’s teaching engages theory in practice, fostering critical perspectives on emergent media through critical making and experiential learning opportunities partnered with public and not-for-profit organizations. Her mentoring of students through place-based learning investigates Toronto’s intangible cultural heritage and has culminated in two award-winning Hidden Histories digital projects. Dr. O’Flynn’s community engagements include joining the Kensington Market Historical Society as director at large and supporting the Chinese Canadian National Council SJ-TO Advisory Board (2022–23) as a member and mentor. Recent local engagements include speaking with community, school and parent groups on the inadequacy of Canadian privacy laws and the safeguards our federal and provincial governments could enact. In 2019, Dr. O’Flynn received the Faculty of Arts and Science Superior Sessional Instructor Teacher Award.
