UC Reads: Building community one chapter at a time.
Frying Plantain by Zalika Reid-Benta

UC invites the College’s students, staff, alumni, and faculty to celebrate the richness of our community through a common love for literature in a project we’re calling UC Reads. Each year, we’ll welcome UC Reads participants to read a title that opens a window onto the lives of people with varied experiences and perspectives. This year, we’ll meet with the author virtually on Tuesday, March 22nd for a conversation about the book and a moderated Q&A session.

Our 2022 book is Frying Plantain by Zalika Reid-Benta. The novel is set in Toronto's Little Jamaica neighbourhood, a part of the city that is currently undergoing significant transformation. Through reading and discussion, we'll peel back the surface to learn about the lives of people living in this dynamic community.

Join us for this wonderful opportunity to engage with the vivid characterization of Toronto, and especially the community of Little Jamaica.
