Welcome Back Message from Interim Director Siobhan O'Flynn
Welcome back, Canadian Studies students, faculty, staff, and community.
As we look forward to an exciting and productive year ahead, I'd like to reaffirm the commitment of the Canadian Studies Program “to the generational work of Truth and Reconciliation” and to supporting “meaningful and sustained engagement with Indigenous peoples and communities.”
To support these aims, the Canadian Studies newsletter will share Indigenous events, workshops, screenings, talks, and keynotes to promote opportunities to learn from and enter into relationship and dialogue with Indigenous communities.
Upcoming events of note:
"In honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, experience community, culture, and connection at a screening of the award-winning film Indian Horse (2017) on Monday September 16, brought to you by the Office of Indigenous Initiatives and Innis College. This event is a free screening for all U of T students, with a possibility of opening up to the larger U of T community if space is available."
The ILG Indigenous Legacy Gathering, September 27-30, 2024, Nathan Philips Square, and the Spirit Garden Opening, September 30, 2024.
The NCFST Native Child and Family Services of Toronto, 27th Annual Community Pow Wow, Saturday September 28, 2024. Dufferin Grove Park.
I hope to see you at some of these upcoming events.
Siobhan O'Flynn
Interim Director, Canadian Studies Program
