Brian's Story

“Thank you so much for this generous donation and for supporting queer young people such as myself.”
Since moving from Vancouver to enroll in the Sexual Diversity Studies program at UC, Brian Wilson’s academic and leadership skills have blossomed. He currently serves as co-president of the Sexual Diversity Studies Student Union (SDSSU) and, when not on campus, you can often find him onstage as a performer in Toronto’s drag scene. His academic excellence, leadership roles and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community earned him the Emperor I. Sergio Apolloni Scholarship, which has helped motivate him to pursue graduate studies in the field of education. “As a new drag queen, receiving this award meant a lot to me,” he said. “I would love to one day be able to use my drag as a means to help my community.”
