Scholarships & Awards

This bursary is to assist University College Students enrolled in an Actuarial Science program who demonstrate financial need. Apply using the online grant application available on ACORN.

To be awarded on the basis of financial need to full-time, undergraduate students enrolled in the Humanities in University College with preference to those studying Philosophy. Eligible candidates are identified through the University's UTAPS program.

Established by a gift of the University College Committee in appreciation of Professor Forguson’s term as principal of University College (1989-97), these awards are intended to assist University College students to benefit from the advantages of living in the college’s residences. Financial need is the primary criterion in selecting recipients, but academic merit and community involvement are also considered. Bequest of the late Isabelle Paris MacLachlan (UC 1911), of variable number and value within the limits of the annual income from the fund, available to female students. In awarding these scholarships, financial circumstances will be considered as well as academic standing. Normally two awards per year with a value approximately equal to the academic fees for the winter session in which it is held. The awards are to go to the University College students deemed most needy by the Scholarship & Bursary Committee, provided they have made academic progress sufficient to satisfy the Committee that they would be worthy recipients. Apply using the online grant application available on ACORN.

Established by a generous gift made by Marguerite Ruth Dow (UC’49). Marguerite Ruth Dow is Professor Emerita of English and Drama at the University of Western Ontario. To be awarded to a University College student enrolled in Drama who has demonstrated financial need. Awarded to University College students with financial need with preference for sole-support parents, especially those who have come to University College from the Transitional Year Program. Apply using the online grant application available on ACORN.

For University College students in Majors or Specialists in the humanities including English, Philosophy, History and Classics. May also be awarded on the basis of other criteria such as academic achievement and community involvement. Must be awarded in accordance with the conditions of the OTSS program which includes financial need and Ontario residency. Apply using the online grant application available on ACORN.

Bequest of the late Miss Catherine S. Michell and Colonel William C. Michell, formerly principal of Riverdale Collegiate Institute. Awards are based on financial need. Academic merit may also be considered. Awards are variable in number and value depending on students’ financial need. Any balance of income may be used for in-course awards of variable value.
