Scholarships & Awards

Awarded to undergraduate students in strong academic standing who are involved in the University College Literary and Athletic Society (LIT), with preference being given to students who participate in a LIT committee dedicated to equity and diversity/social justice.

This award was established in honour of June Surgey, past Director of University College Alumni & Development, to assist University College students who have financial need to live in residence. 

The Kiyoshi and Hana Shimizu Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Kiyoshi and Hana Shimizu by their son Tsutomu (UC 1951). This award is intended to support a student graduating from University College and going on to further study, who intends to make teaching his or her lifetime career. Preference will be given to those going on to primary- or secondary-school teaching, but post-secondary teaching will also be eligible. The award will be made on the basis of academic merit and dedication to the teaching profession. Financial circumstances may also be considered, but will not have priority.

Bursary fund open to undergraduate students at University College who are entering or continuing studies in political science and/or economics. The recipients of the bursaries will be selected based on the demonstration of financial need. To be awarded to students in Sexual Diversity Studies based on the recommendation of the Program’s Director; preference will be given to a student with high academic performance. Open to students from any College.

The awards are to assist students studying in the humanities, preferably in the various branches of classical or modern European literatures, fine art, music or philosophy. Financial need will be the primary criterion in selecting recipients. Academic merit may also be considered.
