Writing Awards
UC Writing Centre
Established in 1948 in memory of Professor Frederic Davidson (UC ’90), the Frederic Davidson Competition offers one prize of $2,000, one of $1,000, and one of $500 annually to any undergraduate student registered at UC, or whose submission is linked to work in a UC program or affiliated Centre, for any type of academic essay. Preference will be given to essays on English or French literature.

Graduating Year Awards
The Gail Ferris Sheard Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit to a student who has obtained a grade point average of 3.50 or higher while carrying a course load of three or more credits who has also been accepted to graduate school or one of the professional schools of law or medicine.

These awards celebrate the mathematical theories of, as well as the myth surrounding, the brilliant French mathematician, Evariste Galois (1811-1832). The awards are to recognize the best University College students enrolled in the Mathematics Specialist program.

Admission Scholarships
Bequest of Verna Pearl Fraser in memory of her late husband, George Roderick Fraser (UC 1928). For outstanding students entering University College intending to pursue mathematical studies, who come from Ontario schools outside “Metropolitan Toronto”.  The award value is $3,000 and is renewable up to 3 times for a total possible value of $12,000. The scholarships are renewable provided students achieve an annual grade point average of at least 3.50 on a course load of 4 full credit equivalents (FCEs) from September to September. Students must be enrolled in full-time studies in order to receive a renewal of their scholarship.

Graduating Year Awards
To be awarded annually to a graduating or graduate student affiliated with University College. Preference will be given to a student intending to pursue research, archaeological exploration or a creative project in which the object or site of study is Greece of Italy.

Financial Need Awards
The Gordon H. Southam Scholarships were established originally by the Southam family in memory of Gordon Hamilton Southam (UC 1907), killed in action in 1916. Intended to assist University College students with the costs of university education. The primary criterion for selecting recipients will be financial need. Also considered will be academic standing, and participation in extracurricular activities in the University.
