Harcourt Brown Travel Fellowship

The gift of Harcourt Brown (UC 1925) provides assistance to graduate students, junior (i.e., untenured) faculty members or post-doctoral students for research-related visits to archives, libraries, museums, galleries or other sites essential to the conduct of their research in the humanities and history of ideas. There are no restrictions as to location; the award is intended to facilitate access to documents. Grants are variable according to available funds and need. Preference is given to applicants who have an affiliation with University College.

Harold Willett Stewart Memorial Scholarship

The Harold Willett Stewart Memorial Scholarship is from the bequest of the late Edith May Stewart in memory of her brother. The scholarship, of the value of the annual income from the fund, to be awarded to a student of University College in the graduating year for the purpose of pursuing post-graduate studies.

Financial Need Awards

Hershell Ezrin Award

Three awards will be made to University College students who are enrolled in programs from the Department of History, one in each of 2nd, 3rd and 4th years who have a minimum annual GPA of 3.5 and who demonstrate financial need by submitting an undergraduate grant application (OSAP eligibility is not required). Students receiving the award in 2nd and/or 3rd year may be eligible for continuing awards providing they maintain eligibility.

Financial Need Awards

Hilda Clara Hiltz Residence Award

The award is intended to assist deserving University College students with the costs of living in UC residences. Financial need will be the primary criterion in making the award, but service to the community and family circumstances may also be taken into consideration.

Howard Ferguson Provincial Scholarships

Bequest of Mrs. Ella Ferguson in honour of her husband the Honourable Howard Ferguson, premier of the Province of Ontario 1923-30 (UC 1892). These scholarships are intended to recognize outstanding Ontario students applying from outside Ontario. Will be awarded only after needs of Howard Ferguson National and Provincial Scholarships are met. The award value is $3,000 and is renewable up to 3 times for a total possible value of $12,000. The scholarships are renewable provided students achieve an annual grade point average of at least 3.50 on a course load of 4 full course equivalents (FCEs) from September to September.

J.S. McLean Scholarships

Gift of the late J.S. McLean, each of the value of up to $3,000 cash, with a total possible value of up to $5,000 over 4 years, for excellence in any subjects or for general proficiency. The scholarships include tuition allowance of $500 per year which is renewable with an annual grade point average of at least 3.50 on a course load of 4 full credit equivalents (FCEs) from September to September.

Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies

Jack Hallam UC’52 Undergraduate Scholarships in Sexual Diversity Studies

Established primarily to support students in the Sexual Diversity Studies (SDS) Program. Though preference will be given to students in the SDS Program, awards may also be given to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students enrolled in other programs at the University of Toronto. Although the primary criterion for selection will be financial need based on the requirements of the OTSS program, the Committee may also consider other factors such as a student’s commitment to academic achievement, outstanding volunteer contributions on or off campus aimed at increasing acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people

Jack Zwaigenbaum Memorial Scholarship for Commerce and Finance

Gift of friends and relatives of the late Jack Zwaigenbaum, enrolled in Commerce and Finance at University College from 1954 until his death in 1956; scholarship of the value of the annual income from the fund.

James Harris Scholarships

Gift of Mrs. James Harris, each of the value of $800 cash, with a total possible value of $2,800, for general proficiency, including the following subjects: Latin and Greek; Latin and French; French and German; two modern languages; Mathematics and Physics. (In awarding one of these scholarships, preference will be given to a student from Ridley College.) The scholarships include tuition allowance of $500 per year which is renewable with an annual grade point average of at least 3.50 on a course load of 4 full credit equivalents (FCEs) from September to September.
