Financial Need Awards

Alan Coatsworth Memorial Scholarship

The Alan Coatsworth Memorial Scholarship was created by Klaus Goldschlag (UC 1944) in honour of Alan Coatsworth, whose ecumenical benevolence assisted young Jewish Torontonians before and during the Second World War. It is awarded annually to students in University College who have achieved high standing in one or more of the following areas of study: history, philosophy and languages. The primary criterion for the award is financial need. Awards have a value of $500 and are variable in number. Apply using the online grant application available on ACORN.

Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity Alumnae Chapter Prize

Gift of the Psi Psi Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity, of the value of $500 for a female student who would not otherwise receive an award.

Anderson Bastedo Cavers Memorial Award

The award shall go to a University College student with excellent performance in an English literature program, with preference to a student whose course of study also includes one or more modern European languages.

Anderson Bastedo Cavers Memorial Award

Established in 1936 by family and friends in memory of Alma Anderson Bastedo (UC 1909) and now including her children, Dorothy Bastedo Cavers (UC 1934), Edgar (Ted) Frank Bastedo (UC 1938), Jean Anne Bastedo and Dr. Donald (Don) Lou Bastedo (UT 1946). To be awarded to a University College student with excellent performance in an English program, with preference to a student whose course of study also includes one or more European languages. The value of this award is approximately $600.

Ann Shepard Memorial Scholarships for Biology, Botany and Zoology

Bequest of the late Mrs. Helen Shepard in memory of her daughter Ann, a student of Parkdale Collegiate who died in 1928 before entering University; the first scholarship with a value of $400, the second of $300, and the remaining four of $250 each. In making the first two awards, preference will be given to students intending to enter a second-year program in biological sciences.

The Bessie Griffith Cosens Scholarship is a bequest of the late Mrs. Bessie Griffith Cosens (UC 1924), with a value of the annual income of the fund (approximately $820). It is awarded to a female student obtaining a grade A standing who is most deserving of financial assistance.
