The UC Library offers information literacy instruction, Course Reserves, and other teaching / research support to professors or sessional instructors in UC-affiliated programs (Canadian Studies; Cognitive Science; Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies; Health Studies; Sexual Diversity Studies; UC One).
Information Literacy Instruction
- The UC Librarian would be glad to do an information literacy / library research session for your class.
- The length of the session is up to you — anything from a quick 15-minute intro to a 2-hour interactive session.
Do your students need to learn about...
- key databases and research tools in your discipline
- finding relevant books and articles for an essay
- distinguishing scholarly sources from non-scholarly
- citing sources and academic integrity
- finding primary sources
- how books are classified by topic in your discipline

Will particular books be in high demand for your course? If so, the UC Library would be glad to place these books in Course Reserves (short-term loan). If we don't already own the books, we'll be glad to purchase them. Just contact the UC Librarian (Margaret Fulford:416-978-4634, margaret.fulford@utoronto.ca).

The Scholarly Communications and Copyright Office's Syllabus Service will help you make course readings available in Quercus, while respecting Canadian copyright provisions and existing U of T licensing agreements.
What to include in your request for physical Course Reserves
- your name and contact info
- your course code and course title
- title and author of book(s) to be placed in Course Reserves
- [publisher and year, if you prefer a specific edition]
- loan period — please choose either 3 hours or 2 days or 5 days

- The main section of the UC Library's collection ("Stacks") is undergraduate-focused and is largely related to the UC-affiliated academic programs (Canadian Studies; Cognitive Science; Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies; Health Studies; and Sexual Diversity Studies), but does include some books of more general interest.
