Summer Residence

During the months of May to August, the residences at University College continue to offer all-gender dormitory-style living in historic and modern halls to students from all over the world!

See below for eligibility requirements, availability, rates, application instructions and facilities information.

On your application, you can select any check-in and check-out dates between Sunday, May 5, 2019 and Thursday, August 22, 2019.

Minimum length of stay is six nights.

Eligibility

To stay in the our residences between May and August, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. You must be at least 18 years of age upon application.
  2. You must be at least one of the following:
    • Current post-secondary student with an active registration status at the University of Toronto
    • Current post-secondary student with an active registration status at another post-secondary institution (i.e. college or university)
    • Recently graduated post-secondary student (previous active session within the last 12 months) from any post-secondary institution
    • Current staff or faculty at any post-secondary institution

Current high school (i.e. secondary school) students participating in summer programs at the University of Toronto are not eligible to apply for summer residence at University College.

Eligibility

You are required to provide proof of eligibility upon check-in. Applications who do not meet the eligibility requirements will be rejected.

Dormitory-style living

You get your own single room or share a double room with another student, while sharing common facilities with other residents.

All-gender Residences

Our buildings are all-gender residences. You will live with students of all genders in the same building and on the same floors, and you will share the same all-gender washrooms. This approach is consistent with our long history as a welcoming community built on traditions of openness, inclusivity and diversity.

Shared Amenities and Facilities

  • Shared all-gender washrooms (aka co-ed, gender-neutral, gender-inclusive)
    • You will share washroom facilities with students of all genders
    • Our washrooms have private and locking shower stalls and toilet stalls.
    • We do not have accommodations with private or en-suite washrooms.
    • We do not have single-gender washrooms.

Discounted rates for U of T students, faculty and staff

Sessional Rate

Price for entire session of May 5 to August 22, or 90 nights or more.

  • Morrison Hall, Single Room - $3,412 for entire session
  • Whitney Hall, Single Room - $3,112 for entire session
  • Whitney Hall, Double Room - $2,652 for entire session (per person)

All sessional rates include 880 complimentary meal dollars. You can use your complimentary meal dollars at the cafe and dining hall.

Double room prices are per person. If you wish to stay in a double room, you must apply with a roommate.

 

Daily Rate (29 to 89 nights)

  • Morrison Hall, Single Room - $37 per night
  • Whitney Hall, Single Room - $34 per night
  • Whitney Hall, Double Room - $30 per night (per person)

All daily rates include 8 complimentary meal dollars per night, which is approximately 240 meal dollars per month or 56 meal dollars per week. You can use your complimentary meal dollars at the cafe and dining hall.

Double room prices are per person. If you wish to stay in a double room, you must apply with a roommate.

If you are staying for 29 nights or more, the maximum occupancy that we will charge you is the sessional rate for the same room type.

Daily Rate (6 to 28 nights)

  • Morrison Hall, Single Room - $43 per night + 13% HST
  • Whitney Hall, Single Room - $40 per night + 13% HST
  • Whitney Hall, Double Room - $36 per night + 13% HST (per person)

All daily rates include 8 complimentary meal dollars per night, which is approximately 240 meal dollars per month or 56 meal dollars per week. You can use at the cafe and dining hall.

Double room prices are per person. If you wish to stay in a double room, you must apply with a roommate.

Standard rates for non-U of T students, faculty and staff

Meals and Food Services

Don’t feel like doing groceries, cooking food, or cleaning dishes? UC Food Services offers a diverse variety of healthy and sustainable food and beverage options. Two locations are located at 75 St George St, Morrison Hall.

You can also prepare your own meals in our kitchens/kitchenettes or purchase meals at other food service locations on campus.

Prepare your own meals

Whitney Hall

If you live in Whitney Hall, you can use two full kitchens on the first floor to prepare your own meals. Each kitchen has two stoves with ovens, a shared fridge, sinks and counter space. You must bring your own kitchen cookware and utensils to prepare your meals.

Morrison Hall

If you live in Morrison Hall, you can use the kitchenette in the common rooms on the first, fifth, eight and tenth floors. Each kitchenette has a shared fridge and microwave. There are no full kitchens with stoves and ovens in Morrison Hall.

Purchase meals elsewhere on campus

The St. George campus of the University of Toronto has over 30 locations where you can purchase everything from a full meal to a quick snack and coffee. View the list online for location hours, addresses and services. The closest full service dining hall that is open during the summer months is the New College Dining Hall at 40 Willcocks St.

Read this first

  • You must submit your application by 1:00 pm at least one business day before your expected arrival date.
  • You must pay a $200.00 reservation and damage deposit using a credit card with your application. We accept VISA, MasterCard, AMEX, Discover and Diners Club International.
  • We will only accept applications if you meet the eligibility requirements above.
  • Applications do not guarantee accommodation. We will consider your application based on availability and eligibility.
  • We do not assign specific rooms in advance.You cannot request specific rooms.
  • If you request a double room in Whitney Hall, you must provide the name of your roommate. You and your roommate must submit separate applications and indicate each other's name as your roommate.
  • We confirm reservations by email only. We cannot confirm reservations by phone.
  • Our summer session ends at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 22, 2019. We will not accept reservations for departures after this date.

Reservation, key and damage deposit

All applicants (U of T and non-U of T) must pay a $200.00 reservation, key and damage deposit upon submitting their application.

  • U of T students. Your deposit will be credited towards your occupancy fees.
  • Non-U of T guests. Your deposit will not be applied towards your occupancy fees. However, it will be refunded back to you 3-5 business days after your check-out, assuming you return all issued keys and have no outstanding balance due to damages, extra cleaning, etc.

Application instructions for U of T students

  1. Visit the Student Housing Application Portal and login using your student number and PIN/Password. If you don't know your PIN/Password, use the Obtain/Forgot Password button.
  2. After logging in, click on the Applications tab.
  3. Under the Term Selector, select UC - Summer 2019 to begin your application.
  4. Complete your application.
  5. Read and agree to the terms and conditions stated in the Summer Residence Occupancy Agreement.
  6. Pay the required $200.00 reservation and damage deposit.
  7. Submit your application.

Application instructions for non-U of T students

  1. Visit the Student Housing Application Portal.
  2. Select "Create Record" to register as an applicant and login.
  3. Once logged in, follow the same instructions for U of T students above from Step 2 onwards.

Arrival and check-in

You can check-in at the front desk of your assigned building.

  • Check-in time is 2:00 pm
  • Check-out time is 11:00 am

Valid photo ID and proof of eligibility

At check-in, you must provide:

  1. Valid photo ID with your date of birth
  2. Proof of eligibility
    • U of T students - valid TCard
    • Non-U of T students - valid student card OR proof of student status on letterhead
    • Faculty or staff - valid employee card or proof of employment on letterhead
    • Recent graduate - most recent student card or proof of graduation, like your unofficial timetable or transcript

We will photocopy your proof of eligibility at check-in.

Directions by public transit

Take the TTC subway to St George subway station. Leave the station using the St George St exit, not the Bedford Rd exit. Walk south on St. George St towards Harbord/Hoskin St. The UC Residences are just south of Harbord/Hoskin st, on the east side of St. George St.
