Financial Need Awards
To be awarded on the basis of financial need to full-time, undergraduate students enrolled in the Humanities in University College with preference to those studying Philosophy. Eligible candidates are identified through the University's UTAPS program.

Established by a gift of the University College Committee in appreciation of Professor Forguson’s term as principal of University College (1989-97), these awards are intended to assist University College students to benefit from the advantages of living in the college’s residences. Financial need is the primary criterion in selecting recipients, but academic merit and community involvement are also considered. Leadership Awards
Gift of friends and colleagues of Mary Jane Hendrie (UC 1981) who died in the Korean Airline incident of 1983. This award is intended for a student with financial need who has contributed to college life by participating in athletics or other extracurricular activities.

UC Writing Centre
Established in 2007 in memory of Meyer Greenstein (UC 1940), the Meyer (Mike) Greenstein Memorial Student Award for Writing Excellence offers a single prize of up to $1,000 each year for excellence in any of the following categories: academic essay, other prose, poetry, drama, novel and short story.

Bequest of the late Miss Catherine S. Michell and Colonel William C. Michell, formerly principal of Riverdale Collegiate Institute. Awards are based on financial need. Academic merit may also be considered. Awards are variable in number and value depending on students’ financial need. Any balance of income may be used for in-course awards of variable value. Established in 1946 in memory of Norma Epstein (UC ’45), the Norma Epstein Foundation Awards in Creative Writing is a competition held annually and is open to students enrolled in University College or to students from other Colleges who are enrolled in University College-sponsored or affiliated courses or programs.
